Bacon Egg Tater Tot Casserole (Print-Friendly Version)

Crispy tater tots, savory bacon, eggs, and cheese create a comforting, golden breakfast favorite.

# What You Need:

→ Hearty Base

01 - 900 grams frozen tater tots
02 - 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
03 - 8 large eggs
04 - 240 millilitres whole milk
05 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
06 - 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
07 - 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder (optional)
08 - 100 grams shredded cheddar cheese
09 - 100 grams shredded Monterey Jack or pepper jack cheese
10 - 25 grams green onions, chopped (optional)
11 - Butter or nonstick spray for greasing

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat oven to 175°C. Generously grease a 23x33-centimetre baking dish with butter or nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
02 - Distribute the frozen tater tots evenly in a single layer across the base of the prepared baking dish for a crisp foundation.
03 - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, salt, black pepper, and dry mustard powder if using. Mix until no egg white streaks remain.
04 - Sprinkle the cooked, crumbled bacon evenly over the tater tots. Top with both shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack or pepper jack cheeses for enhanced flavour.
05 - Carefully pour the whisked egg mixture evenly over the layers, ensuring the liquid seeps between the tater tots and cheese.
06 - Optionally, scatter chopped green onions over the top. Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes until eggs are fully set and the surface is golden brown.
07 - Remove from the oven and let rest 5–10 minutes to set before cutting and serving.

# Important Notes:

01 - Allowing the dish to rest after baking helps the casserole set and yields cleaner portions.
02 - Combining two cheese varieties adds depth and richness to the finished dish.
03 - The tater tots absorb some egg mixture, resulting in a cohesive and satisfying texture.
