Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.

Arrange all slices of bread buttered side down on a preheated griddle or skillet.

Place one slice of Swiss cheese on four of the bread slices.

Cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.

Remove bread from griddle. Spread approximately 1/3 cup chicken salad onto each of the four slices without cheese. Top with a lettuce leaf and two tomato slices per sandwich.

Close each sandwich with the toasted bread and melted cheese. Cut sandwiches in half and serve immediately.
